First Presbyterian Churches of Peoria

The beautiful United Presbyterian Church is a giant leap from what early Presbyterians attended for worship services in December 1834. Old First Church was known as the “Mother Church” in Peoria because of the number of Sabbath Schools it birthed. These included Sabbath Schools in private homes, a railroad car, a public school, and a Chinese Sabbath School created for migrant workers. First Presbyterian also gave rise to churches that became Congregational, Methodist, Lutheran and Baptist. Join us as we share the story of unique twists of history of congregations, parsons and Peoria.
